History

1995: Safia Barr started the first KinderKampus British Columbia pilot site in Richmond with eight children

  • 1996: Moved to Maple Ridge in July. The Maple Ridge Centre operated for six years until July 2002, when Safia and her family moved to Port Moody.
  • 1999: After a public tender, KinderKampus was selected by the City of Port Moody to operate a childcare centre in the newly constructed Old Orchard Hall.  After completing the necessary improvements to the hall, KinderKampus opened in January 2000 with a licensed capacity of 25 spaces and has operated a successful and very popular childcare service since that time.
  • 2002: Port Moody again selected KinderKampus in a tender to operate the childcare centre for 25 children at the new Heritage Mountain Community Hall in the Heritage Woods neighbourhood.
  • 2003: As the first class of children ‘graduated’ from the program at Old Orchard Hall, parents requested that KinderKampus offer service to the post-kindergarten age group, so KinderKampus leased a classroom at Pleasantside Elementary school to provide Out of School care (and Preschool services in mid-day), and these programs continue today.
  • 2005: In a similar scenario, parents in the Heritage Woods neighbourhood, contacted KinderKampus and school officials at Aspenwood Elementary requesting a Before & After school program. Starting in September, Kinder Kampus leased space at Aspenwood Elementary to provide Before & After School Care. (This program was relocated to our brand new, built-for-purpose, childcare facility next door in September 2011.
  • 2005. KinderKampus is proud to have been among the final three finalists for the 2005 Chamber of Commerce Small Business Award.
  • 2006: A solid reputation led the Burquest Jewish Community Association to contact KinderKampus to operate a childcare centre in their community centre on Dewdney Trunk Road in Coquitlam. KinderKampus started to operate an infant-toddler facility at this location in January 2006, and then renovated and converted to Daycare (ages 3-5 programming in July 2011).
  • 2011.  Kinder Kampus completes construction of a new, built-for-purpose childcare facility in Heritage Woods.  This facility offers infant/toddler care, pre-school, Junior Kindergarten, and before/after school care programs.
  • 2011.  Kinder Kampus makes classroom and playground renovations to the Burquest Community Centre location to offer a new enriched daycare program for ages 2.5 to 5 years.   The facility is located next to the Coquitlam West Coast Express station.
  • 2011.  Kinder Kampus makes classroom renovations, playground renovations, and invests in new furniture and equipment at all locations to maintain our top quality facilities, and to inspire growth and development of the children in our care.
  • 2012.  Kinder Kampus is Selected in Tri-City News ‘A-List’ Readers Poll as Favourite Childcare Facility in the Tri-Cities.
  • 2014.  Kinder Kampus is Selected in Tri-City News ‘A-List’ Readers Poll as Favourite Childcare Facility and favourite Preo-School in the Tri-Cities.
